Last Friday, a conference was held in the APC Auditorium. The conference was entitled "Bayan o sarili?". It was dedicated to our beloved national heroes that fought for our country. Honestly, I didn't know what happened in the first hour of the conference because my blockmate (Krisper) and I arrived there an hour late.
"Bayan o sarili?". This question made us all think what will be our choice between ourselves and our country. In the conference, the host asked us what our choice will be. We all said "Bayan!". We all answered "bayan" because just like what the host said that if you choose yourself, yes you may be safe and happy but you will live with the burden that you did not do anything for our country. And by "country", I also mean our "kapwa Pilipino".
We are born as Filipinos. I am a Filipino and I am proud of that. I am very gratified that I was born in this beloved and wonderful country called Philippines. That was the realization that hit me when I attended the conference. It made me aware and informed about being a Filipino.
A movie entitled "Heneral Luna" was also featured in the conference. Well actually, that was the conference was mostly about. The movie was directed by a creative and dedicated director named Jerrold Tarog. Obviously, the movie was about General Antonio Luna that led the first Philippines army during the American invasion near the end of the 19th century. John Arcilla, a great actor, was the one who masterfully portrayed General Luna, without failing to show the sense of humor and the kindness of the character, as a zealous nationalist and an aggressive military leader.
What I like about the movie is that we can really reflect ourselves with the things that happened back then. It will make us more appreciative about the freedom that we are enjoying now. The movie was indeed meaningful. I can't wait to watch it since it will surely make me- i mean us more aware about our country's freedom.
